Know About The Types of Dog Tumors

You should not believe that any lump on the skin, which is very common to have, is always Dog Tumors. Such lumps can be a result of a large number of scenarios that include cysts, abscesses, stings and insect bites, ant swelling, hematomas and much more. Though all these can give result to a tumor and later on to cancer but in most cases these are common, benign or merely cosmetic. But when a vet comes detects skin tumor, there are two specific issues that must be dealt with which are whether there is any requirement of a surgical removal or not. The other aspect to determine is whether or not any further treatments are required after surgery.

The Benign Tumors

In most of the cases Dog Tumors are found to be benign and not dangerous. In such cases the vets do not even think for an autopsy, leave aside surgery. Some of these benign tumors can be small warts attached to the narrow strip of the skin of the dog. There may be some benign tumors for which the vet will remove some cells from the lump with precise and careful insertion of a needle. Such cells are then characterized under the microscope to define the prognosis and also to determine whether or not a complete removal of the lump is required.

The Malignant Tumor

Thorough clinical examination is required to assess the type and characteristic of Dog Tumors. These examinations are necessary to know about the size of the tumor, the position of it, its appearance, and the lymph nodes. All these help in knowing whether or not there is any existence of metastasis. Such tests also enable the vet to distinguish between malignant and benign tumors. Any tumor that is benign tumor will grow slowly. There may not be any change in the shape or in the size even after many years. Having a clear margin these benign tumors do not cause any harm to the dog. On the other hand malignant tumors will grow rapidly and also becomes ulcerated in short time.

Benign Skin Tumors

There may some benign Dog Tumors essentially on the skin that is often associated with aging. These are small skin tags or growths that look like small warts and grow spontaneously. It can also be the cause of some virus infection as well. There may be some sebaceous cyst or hyperplasia that is often caused by the accumulation of sebum. This is the result of any blockage in the gland duct ad such cysts can be removed by squeezing. As for hyperplasia it can ulcerate and bleed and often require cryosurgery with the use of liquid nitrogen.

Subcutaneous Dog Tumors

There may be some subcutaneous tumors as well like the lipoma which is a circumscribed mass commonly found in dogs. It is a well-defined and soft rubbery texture that grows slowly in overweight and old dogs. Found on the trunk or on the limbs these often require surgical excision. Therefore, it is always advised that proper investigation of the lumps is done to be sure. For more information visit Our Website
